Some of these are as serious as I know how to be, while others (especially the ads) are just plain nutty.  Sorry, but I can't seem to help myself.  This is not an apology, just a fact.  These are hard times.  Rome is burning and Nero is griping that his filet mignon is over cooked.  Millions of people sit in long-term care facilities suffering late-life despair alone while many within the church remain indifferent.  I get angry about that.  Yes, I grumble, but I laugh, too.  Believers live joyfully because God's son died for us.  Praise his name!  He offers life to the full!  (John 10:10)                                                                                                                                                                                     -Rich Walters

Here I am again!  If I look different than I did, it’s because I’m riled.  Old fashioned down-on-the farm, mean as a goat, strong as a bull R-I-L-E-D!

It’s pretty easy to see that I’m wearing my game face and that I’m in this competition to win.  Seriously.

Here is...

Now that we are meeting more often, I’ll tell you some more about myself.

My birth certificate says my name is Maude.  My full maiden name is Maude Louise Heffe if you must know.  Maude was an old name even when I was born, which wasn’t yesterday if you couldn’t guess....

Okay, I’ll admit it, I lost my cool with a new CNA.  I may as well tell you because I know she will rat me out as soon as she can.  Did you hear what I said?  “Rat me out,” is not an expression someone would use if they had been hiding in a cave for the last forty year...

Here I am where I always am, but I don’t feel like the person I usually feel like.  I suppose that is common among jail birds.  They tell me to count my blessings, so I do, but I feel empty.  They tell me to be optimistic, to look at the bright side.  I do, but I feel...

That was the essence of the bulletin insert we ran for two weeks at our church a few years ago.  We sought to find people with compassion for people who live in long-term care but who had never gone to visit.  Thousands of neglect...

When Jesus was teaching about the final judgment, he said that doing acts of compassion to the “least of these” is the same as doing it to him (Matthew 25:40).  The take-it-home-and-use-it message in Jesus’ teaching about the “least of these” is that the phrase "least...

Diana may not look serious here--obviously, she is not serious all the time--but this time and on this subject, she is 100% serious.  She is retiring!

Partially, that is.  She is shedding her duties as a manager of an assisted living unit and will work three six-hour da...

A friend I greatly admire but have yet to meet is Ben Boland, a chaplain to the late-aged.  Ben regularly writes and speaks about aged care ministry, and passionately promotes and resources the gospel for older people.  He is currently writing an MA project a...

Don't look for him in the phone book or anywhere on the internet but here.

Jon is a new blessing to the ministry of Touching Grace.  He is a volunteer one day a week.  When this picture was taken he had been attaching swaths of fabric that replicates robes worn in the era of Jesus to page 23 of the book Remembering the Life of...
